One of the most popular cocktails on our current menu was inspired by the Moroccan spice blend, ras el hanout. A ras el hanout syrup layered with orange, lemon, spirit, and orange blossom water makes for a cocktail that's crowd pleasing and sophisticated at the same time. Spicy but not too spicy, fruity but not too fruity. Now we are sharing the secrets to making "Morocco's Modern Life" so you can make it at home:⁣⁣ Ras el hanout syrup: combine 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, 1 cinnamon stick, 1 Tbs. ginger, 1 Tbs. allspice, 2 tsp cloves, 1/2 Tbs. black peppercorns, and 1 tsp. red pepper flakes in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Remove from the heat and cool for 10 minutes. Strain through a fine mesh strainer and chill.⁣⁣ To make the cocktail: add 1 oz. ras el hanout syrup, 1.5 oz Lake Superior Vodka or Cedar Gin, 2 oz. fresh orange juice, 3/4 oz. lemon juice and 2 drops orange blossom water to a tall, ice-filled glass. I tacked it up on my dorm room wall and frequently read it to myself to assuage my homesickness. It traveled with me to all my apartments until we finally moved back to Duluth. 🌲We often talk about terroir when we talk about our spirits. The idea of conveying the nature and culture of a place through flavors.
